Dinnington RRC are running the event again and hope to make it a bigger event than last year, raising money for CRY with post ride food etc back at the Cricket club. More details to follow. Sundays ride was 95 miles in total was completed in a ride time of 5 Hours 21 minutes. The first section of the ride was lead out by HDCC's top lead out riders, Dave Clarke and Matt Rodgers who set a quick tempo with the aid of a favourable tail wind. Once we the group hit the only significant climb, good all rounder Dave Clarke powered up taking the Lewis Morgan, Gareth Dooley and John Elliott with him with the reaming riders bringing up the rear. The group took the opportunity to refuel at Mrs B's Woodland retreat at the foot of the north side of the Humber Bridge before setting out to cross the Humber and head back. 4 punctures in quick succession took the edge of the groups average speed but it was good practice for the riders to hone their skills at repairing the damage. Sara Rodgers was impressive with her super fast change easily beating veteran Pete Lees who took the defeat badly. This was the beginning of the end for Pete Lees who suffered badly in the strong headwind on the way home with the inform Sara Rodgers again showing him how it should be done. The group splintered in to two groups after Epworth with Pete Lees again bringing up the rear, all in it was a great ride which was lead by Lewis Morgan. Well done to all who took part.
The club ride on Sunday 18 September saw eight riders out for a ride over to Blyton Ice Cream Cafe. All riders complete the 57.5 mile ride, averaging 18.4 mph. The speed was kept up by Dave Clarke and Robin McKinnon on the front for the majority of the ride! Weather was perfect although the countdown begins to the autumn and cold mornings …... Another sportive is planned for 16 October - see link below

A massive thankyou to all who entered and of course all who helped to organise and marshall the events. 3 HDCC riders took part in the Le Squadra and Rapha Renezvous Event. This was a 45 mile ride in the peak district, accompanied by Rapha Condor Sharp riders. on their return the HDCC riders took on some much needed food and drink at Nonnas in Sheffield, whilst watching that days Giro D'Italia stage on the big screen. Well done to Matt Sara and whoever was the other participant? :
A windy spring morning saw nine riders out. 57 miles covered on a run to Blyton. Lewis calvert got the vote yet again for the rider of the day, which was awarded after he almost took the climb at Gringley and took the sprint at Ranskill. Another reminder that HDCC will be riding to the Lincoln GP on the 8th of May. Meeting at the Pavillion at 08:30 and should be returning around 14:00. Also HDCC would like to wish local rider Russell Downing good luck for the Giro D'Italia, it looks like a very tough one this year including Monts Zoncolan and Etna! Watch his progress and pain on Eurosport:
HDCC's top rider, Matt Rodgers embarked on some last minute tapering prior to the start of the evening league racing series in order to hone his fitness, speed and stamina for the impending season. Travelling to Tuscany to train on the same roads as many other Elite British Riders including Mark Cavendish, Ben Swift, Peter Kennaugh and Geraint Thomas, Matt cycled 235 miles and climbed over 12,800ft in the four days of training. The weather was mixed but perfect roads made up for any lack of sunshine. Matt's ride routes and statistics can been seen on the attached graphs as well as a photo of him with his new training partner, Sky Pro Cycling's, Ben Swift. Matt will be mixing it with other local stars throughout the summer in the NMRRL and other carefully selected races..:
Another lovelly spring morning saw a good few riders out. 55 miles covered on a steady run to ollerton. Lewis calvert got the vote from the Captain and Vice for the rider of the day, which was well earned. Lewis is coming into some good form and is looking ready to tackle some races. HDCC will be riding to the Lincoln GP on the 8th of May. If anybody wants to go, we will be meeting at the Pavillion at 08:30 and should be returning around 14:00.:
The Ray Levers Race was held at the torworth circuit, it was a well entered event and for HDCC's first run event, was a real success. Thanks to all who contributed to the event, especially Matt and Sara Rogers for all the hard work they put in. Pete Lees has to get a mention for his outstanding marshalling. The first group off managed to hold off the other two groups to finish the race alone, with Sheffrecs Dan Shinn taking the line, just ahead of Paul Sleaford and Richard Nutt. Our race team managed 9th through Paul Cubbin. The second group had a 2nd and 3rd finish for HDCC through Matt Barker Quick and Robin McKinnon respectively. Dinnington RC had a great day with no fewer than 4 placed in the top 10. Overall it turned out to be a brilliant day and we look forward to putting on more successful events in future, so keep an eye on the website for details. The final results are as follows:

A couple of HDCC's top riders were in action on their own mini tour of spain. The new HDCC kit was trialed on this trip and came up trumps. Apparently the shorts are very comfortable when sat on a bar stool. Thanks to Matt and Sara for the pics.
HDCC is supporting the CSMAPC Sportive events this year. The first event is on 3rd april and is either a 100 or 50Km ride depending on which one suits your needs. HDCC would like to wish all members and their families a happy and prosperous new year. 2011 looks like it will be an interesting year for HDCC, what with the club now running the Ray Levers Race, and with more club members competing in the Road Race League too. Keep an eye on the Events Calendar for all 2011 events. A quick reminder that this years membership subscription is £10, and hopefuly the club can build on its successes of last year, with regard to both membership numbers and race results.
The winter training schedule was put on hold for the few that don't take their cycling seriously! Special appearance by Dave Clarke. All went smoothly this year, with no fights to report.
A good few(hardcore!) members turned up to Tickhill to represent HDCC in the memorial charity ride on a wet and cold morning. The total turnout for the event was huge, with the size of the peloton being a pretty amazing sight (apologies to the many motorists out on the route today). The Club started off riding as together as possible, but the expected break up of the field caused the HDCC riders to lose each other and settle into their own groups for the duration. Overall a well enjoyed event, which looks as though it will be an annual occurance. Well done to all who took part.
The Christmas Meal this year is to be held at Styrupp Hall Golf Club on Thursday 9th of December at 7pm, a table for 15 has been booked at a cost of £17 per person. Matt Rodgers bravely represented HDCC at the 80th Monsal Hill Climb finishing in a time of 2:25.3. Eventual winner Russell Downing had to have his best climbing legs on to ensure our HDCC rider was kept out of the top places.
Not so good weather at Verenti's The Rut Sportive in Oakham, Leicestershire - but this doesn't put off HDCC. 7 riders completed the course:-
John OWENS 06:03:21 Pete LEES 06:04:54 Lewis CALVERT 05:59:12 Mick WAINWRIGHT 06:04:39 Mel LACEY 06:03:26 Lewis MORGAN 05:58:46 Andrerw RODGERS 05:57:12 Decent weather and record crowds meant for an enjoyable Manchester 100 Sportive in 2010. 6 HDCC riders completed the 100 mile route in a record time (Matt, John, Andy, Andy, Lewis C, Mat), despite the odd spoke problem. The finishers were greeted with a bandstand finish as usual. Article below from Cycling Weekly.....click to open.
Mat Barker-Quick finished the TLI race season on a high by winning the last Saturday NMRRL Race. Poor conditions resulted in an incident packed race, but the HDCC race team member managed to hold off the competition in a sprint finish. This result propelled Mat to second in the whole series, losing out to the top spot by a single point.
Matt Rodgers season ended with bad luck after a puncture on the final Thursday NMRRL race robbed him of potentially his first race victory.
Overall a pleasing display from a much depleted HDCC race team this year....we look forward to next season and a return to the numbers we saw in 2009 competing for the club.
Matt Rodgers and Mat Barker-Quick took on the Phil Liggett CTC Challenge in the Peaks on Sunday. It was soon apparent that this monster challenge would test even those with the fitness and power associated with HDCC race team members.
Both riders completed nearly 80 miles in the Peaks, including Holme Moss, with the significant metric being total climbing of over 7000ft.
Low gears were the order of the day along with mental toughness and determination.
Despite a cold and wet start to the day 8 HDCC riders took off towards Cleethorpes with the promise of fish and chips beckoning.
As the day progressed the weather improved, although nobody attempted to take a dip in the crystal clear seas.
After a lunch break and exciting look around the town, we returned into a strong head wind arriving back in Harworth for 6pm .
Total mileage on the day was 115 miles.
Route for Sunday 18th July below. Approx timings as follows:- Harworth..................7:30am prompt All timings are approximate - all riders note that this is an ALL DAY ride staying together as a club. As promised, the prize list from the TT Open Series - who says there's no money in cycling? More good weather but slightly stronger winds for the final event - results below. Hope you all enjoyed it and thanks to all involved especially those who helped out and Brenda & Neil for making the events happen. Full list of prizes to follow shortly!! Matt Rodgers and Mat Barker-Quick both competed in the reinstated Monyash Handicap Road Race on Sunday near Buxton. The 40 mile event consisted of 6 laps of a hilly circuit on a sweltering day. Mat Barker-Quick attempted to stay with a breakaway but ultimately retired with a lap to go as the main bunch picked up the pace. Matt Rodgers found the going tough, also retiring along with a considerable number of competitors. On an equally self publicising note, Mat Barker-Quick finished 4th and 8th in recent Saturday and Thursday NMRRL races, although chances of winning the series seem slim at this stage.
A well deserved pint becons Mick,Pete,John and Mel from HDCC entered the 112 mile Flat out in the Fens Sportive this Sunday. This was very well run and worth making the journey to cycle through vast open countryside on a glorious day.
All four riders stuck together in true Harworth style, the food stations where well stocked with bikers fodder malt loaf, jelly babies, bananas' etcmai all supplied at no cost. (Take heed other event organisers)
The 114 mile ride was covered in 6 hr 10 mins average 18.4mph, doing the first 60 miles in well under 3 hours.
After the event tea and coffee was waiting and facilities to take a shower and change - Wiggle Cycles also had a stand with bikes and where on hand for repairs and chat. 114 miles to go! Some photos from the second Ranskill Time Trial last Tuesday Glorious sunshine and light winds meant for improved times all round on event 2 - results below. Steve Roe (Team Swift) gave us a time trial masterclass with Catherine Neary (Dinnington RC) the quickest lady on the night. The final event is Tuesday 29th June, same time, same place.....we will be meeting at the Blue Bell, Ranskill afterwards to review the results and discuss advanced aerodynamics. Results from the first HDCC Ranskill Open TT event below - we were blessed with good weather and favourable winds on the opening night. Well done to Dominic (Retford Wheelers) and Catherine (Dinnington RC) who lead the series at the moment. Next event is Tuesday 22nd June, same time, same place.....see you there and bring your friends. This Sunday saw HDCC ride to Hathersage completing a tough day in the saddle. Some riders clocked over 80 miles including new rider Lewis from Doncaster, who was nearer 100. As usual we took a break to refuel and socialise, see below. New members are always welcome on our Sunday rides....8:30am from the pavilion unless otherwise arranged. Harworth CC riders were out in force on Sunday at the first Sheffield 100 event with six riders completing the 100 mile course. The newly designed route took in some rolling terrain before stopping in central Lincoln for a break, with a return along some of the national cycling route. There are many benefits to doing these rides including personal achievement and promoting the club - we discovered new routes for future club rides and a number of other riders expressed interest in joining HDCC. Thanks to all who took part and we look forward to seeing more club riders take on one of these great events, especially those yet to venture beyond the normal club rides. Bring it on... This years HDCC organised event is a series of 3 time trials on Tuesday nights - 15th, 22nd and 29th June. Signing on is between 6:30pm and 7pm with first rider starting at 7:15pm. HDCC Members competed in the recent triathlon at Woodhall Spa with Sara Rodgers completed the course in 1 Hour 31 Mins and 33, a 2 minute improvement on last year. Gavin Hodgson finished in 1 hour 12 mins and 4 secs. Sara on the finish line... HDCC race team have had mixed fortunes in races recently. The Ray Levers road race on 11th April was marred by a crash resulting in Matt Rodgers breaking his wrist. Andy Rodgers has debuted on the race scene via the NMRRL Saturday league, finding the pace tough going. Mat Barker-Quick completed the first Thursday race under the new format finishing 15th. Sunday's ride to Southwell saw another 17 riders out, after picking up Brian en-route. Nice to see new riders out along with our race star Leigh Holmes. We're flying now! Pavilion start More articles courtesy of Captain Andy Rodgers in The Star - Pete, take note. It had to happen sooner or later........with the numbers we have been getting over the winter it was only a matter of time before we saw a club record attendance on a Sunday. HDCC has to be the fastest growing club in the area. On Sunday's long 80 miler was AndyR, Steve, AndyB, Mick, Mel, Pete, Paul, Nigel, JohnO, JonE, Matt, Sara, Amanda, Colin, JohnH, Mark & Mat Only another 40 miles to go Sunday's ride to Newmillerdam showed that there is some serious training still to be done before tackling this years sportive schedule At the cafe stop Photos from the event below...turned out better weather than predicted. HDCC at the start 75 miles completed At the finish Mat Barker-Quick's 5th place finish in the last NMRRL race at Stainton secured him the M2 category prize. With the format of the races changing next season it will be interesting to see how HDCC riders get on, hopefully continued success. Commenting on this Mr Barker-Quick said 'I hope my victory demonstrates that hard work, dedication and planning are not required to be successful....you just need a good head start on the decent riders' Mat's second 5th in a row Chairman Mat managed 5th place in the penultimate Thursday league race at Stainton. To add to the competition a passing tractor decided to block the course on the 6th lap, splitting the field. Still, rather that than crashing....... Mat's 5th at Stainton Greg Elliott has stormed recent 25 mile TT races with times consistently under the hour. His best time of 58:25 is a club record since the reformation of HDCC. Not satisfied with this landmark, Greg still thinks he can go quicker, looking for a sub 57 this season. Greg in training....or is it? Ladies Captain Brenda Watson completed a 12 hour cycle ride on covering 172.269 miles (avs 14.4 mph). This is the first time in years that a HDCC club member has attempted a 12 hour ride. Can you do better? Brenda completing 12 hour race Please see below for current stock list. We are unlikely to get any further kit from Bergamo this year so when it's gone......E-mail contact@hdcc.co.uk for all enquiries. Despite treacherous rainy conditions Matt Rodgers sprinted to 7th (unofficially) in the first NMRRL race at Stainton. Clearly the combination of commuting to work on his bike and carbon wheels has borne fruit. HDCC race team have performed well this year in the NMRRL with riders contesting the points on a regular basis. Matt takes 7th at Stainton In 2009 we recognise the landmark achievement by club member George Morris for 50 years of membership with HDCC. Gavin Hodgson leads the event, with Ollie Lord in second followed closely by Ian Storey. Sara Rodgers leads the ladies event (2 out of the 3 events count towards the final positions). Thanks to the organisers and marshalls, photos will be available soon. Event 2 is on Tuesday 9th June starting at 7pm. Event 1 Tue 26 May, Event 2 Tue 9 June, Event 3 Tue 23 June This Saturday's club 25 mile Time Trial Championships saw Greg retain his title with a time of 1:02:59, an improvement of nearly 4 minutes on last years winning time. Despite being the only full HDCC member to enter, it was unlikely any other HDCC rider would have posed much of a threat.... The first Torworth NMRRL race kicked off with a good result for Harworth Race Team. Mat & Leigh set off in the middle group and with the storming pace, maintained the gap from the scratch group. Leigh mis-timed his sprint slightly finishing 11th, with Chairman Mat sneaking past for a 6th place finish. This Sunday saw possibly the best HDCC team effort in recent times, with six quaility riders competing in the Ray Levers Memorial Road Race.
